Kristin Serafin Ottinger, Associate

Kristin Serafin Ottinger joined the firm in March 2020 as an Associate in the Tampa office. Ms. Ottinger’s practice focuses on first-party property insurance coverage matters. Ms. Ottinger’s clients include national and local carriers whom she counsels in matters involving coverage determinations and civil remedies and defends in litigation of coverage disputes.

Experience

Before her association with the firm, Ms. Ottinger was an Assistant City Attorney representing and defending the City of Tampa in a wide variety of civil litigation with a significant focus on tort claims brought pursuant to F.S. § 768.28. Ms. Ottinger also advised the City on self-insurance coverage matters including claim decisions, pre-suit negotiations, and occasional PIP issues. She successfully litigated and defended a myriad of cases brought against the City and on more than one occasion ascertained a complete defense verdict at trial. Ms. Ottinger also handled her own post-judgment appeals. Prior to her tenure with the City, Ms. Ottinger practiced criminal law and successfully managed her own legal practice for several years after having gained in-depth criminal law experience as an Assistant State Attorney in the Twelfth and Thirteenth Judicial Circuits of Florida. Ms. Ottinger has participated in more than eighty jury trials and more than a hundred bench trials in over twenty years of civil and criminal practice.

Recognition

Ms. Ottinger is an active member of the J. Clifford Cheatwood American Inn of Court. Ms. Ottinger is also a volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Tampa Bay and United Yorkie Rescue and a member of the Tampa Krewe of Queen Anne’s Revenge. While in law school, Ms. Ottinger was a member of the Legal Writing Honor Society and Stetson’s Client Counseling Team. During her undergraduate studies, Ms. Ottinger was the recipient of a Florida Academic Scholarship and a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
